What is a quizlet and how is it used to learn new words?

It is generally known that any foreign language is best learned if a person is in daily contact with it. So learn while riding the bus, tram, waiting in line at the post office or while drinking your morning coffee... You won't get bored if you can use every such moment to learn new words.

Does this now mean that you need to lug a bulky dictionary with you everywhere you go? Of course not. You don't need a dictionary of 100,000 words any more than you used to in order to learn German, English or any other language.

Quizlet gives you everything you need. In order of importance. Everything is organized and packed into meaningful units, which make learning easier for you. The words are related to each other by topic (eg. The clothes, Food and drink, The family...) and arranged from the easiest level to the most demanding. Don't wander, learn words "in a package" - from 2'000 pieces, 4'000 or 10'000.

What is a quizlet?

Quizlet is a (desktop and mobile) application for learning new words. Quizlet teaches students with flashcards, various games and tests. It is intended for all those who learn foreign languages and who need "chronological guide to learning foreign words". For proper language learning, chronology is crucial. Learning loses its meaning if, due to lack of knowledge of foreign language learning techniques, you try to learn more difficult words first, while e.g. you haven't even mastered the basics yet. Maybe you ev. it is not even known what those basic words are in general (in German there are 650 for level A1 and 2000 for A2).

This is the most common problem of anyone trying to learn on their own, without a reliable guide to rely on. If you make this mistake, you will set yourself up to learn by rote, without understanding and connecting the material. This will significantly slow down and hinder your progress.

The value of Quizlet is that the app remembers the words you know and the ones you don't. Then he gives you words you don't know, so you can practice them. For those of you who know, there is an option to archive them, so those words will no longer be shown to you for practice. You can practice words by translating them from a foreign language into our language and vice versa, as you like.

When exercising, you can practice words and writing and pronunciation at the same time. There's even an option to compete against each other live! Studying with a quizlet is really not boring and that's why it will keep your attention and therefore encourage you to persevere in your studies.

How to use quizlet?

Quizlet has 8 different options:

1. Flash Cards (word cards)

There is one word on both sides of the card. On one side is the translation into Serbo-Croatian, on the other is the same word, but in the language you are learning. The cards turn themselves. By swiping a word to the left, you go back to repeat and learn it more. By swiping to the right, you mark that word as learned.

2. Learn (personalized learning)

For short-term memory, long-term memory and long-term knowledge. Learning takes place by giving you a term in the Serbo-Croatian language, as well as a photo that represents that term. Your task is to find the translation for the given word.

3. Write (writing exercises)

A card with a picture of the term you need to translate appears in front of you. It is possible to translate from a foreign language to your mother tongue or vice versa, depending on the option you choose. In this way, you practice spelling and writing, but also generally restore the meaning of words.

4. Spell (listening to the words via audio recording and writing them down)

Simply press the speaker icon and you will hear the term in the foreign language. After that, you need to write the term in the given section, spelling it correctly. Below is also a picture and a translation into our language, as an additional reminder.

5. Test

A question appears in front of you, i.e. word, to which you should give an answer in the form of a translation. The question format can be true/false, multiple-choice answers, or a column where you write the answer. This is a great way to test yourself and check your knowledge.

6. Match (connecting words)

You need to find the same word in both languages and then connect them.

7. Gravity (game with "falling words")

The word you need to translate scrolls down the screen. You should write down the translation and do it before it disappears from view. If you make a mistake, the next time the same word appears, a warning will appear that a "red asteroid" is coming. He warns you that if you make a mistake again, you lose the game.

8. Live (competition with other participants)

Competition is possible as a group or individually. When you select the quizlet Live option, a unique code is generated, which other participants need to scan (QR code) or type (numeric code) to join your game crew. Through communication with teammates or motivated by the chance to win, your learning will be further stimulated.

How much does a quizlet cost and how is it paid for?
